Course Information:
12 Lessons in length-the course is the first course of the Catechetical Certificate Program, and also the first course in a two course introductory sequence. It serves as the immediate prerequisite for Introduction to Theology-2.
Course Descriptions:
In this course students will be introduced to the vocation of the catechist as understood by the Church. In addition, the central doctrines of the Church’s Faith will be examined together with their theological and philosophical underpinnings. This foundation will enable students not only to know what the Church teaches, but, keeping in mind the task of the catechist to educate those coming into or growing in communion with the Church and the questions that will naturally arise in their work as catechists, to be able to explain why the Church holds these doctrines and how She understands them. With this foundation in hand, the student will be prepared to move toward the basic applications of Catholic doctrine in various areas in the Intro to Theology-2 course and ultimately toward successful completion of the Catechetical Certificate Program.
